The AP Mobile app for iPhone was my go-to news reader. At launch, it offered more screen estate for stories than the NYTimes app and, another bonus: I totally knew the guy designing the UI. The UI duties are still in the family, so to speak, but over the past six months, what started with a faint whiff of the business-side of everything AP, completely reeks today.

So yesterday, I wanted a quick hit of local news and the “Let’s Get Started!” screen that greeted me nailed my gag and DELETE APP reflex. It was that quick.
