My parents let me watch The Shining when I was too young. They didn’t do it out of neglect, it was on Showtime, instead, I imagine they let me watch it because they were both so absorbed in the movie that the movie was the only they were watching. That’s Stanley Kubrik’s great gift; You watch his movies. This was my first Kubrik therefore my parents are good.
Anyways, Scatman Crothers (pictured) passed away in 1986, not long after I saw The Shining. To this day I associate the death of his character in the movie with his actual death, as if he somehow survived the attack by Jack Torrence/Nicholson and later died of complications caused by an unexpected axe to the chest.
R.I.P. Scatman Crothers, Overlook Chef and voice of the Autobot, Jazz.
